BeGreen Africa: Empowering Youth through Green Entrepreneurship

The Tony Elumelu Foundation, in collaboration with UNICEF Generation Unlimited (GenU) and the IKEA Foundation, is thrilled to announce the launch of a pioneering initiative - the BeGreen Africa Green Entrepreneurship Programme. This innovative project aims to tackle the pressing issue of African youth unemployment by fostering green entrepreneurship. We are excited to present an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to make a significant impact on waste management and the green sector across Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.

Program Highlights

The BeGreen Africa application portal is now open on TEFConnect, the digital platform of the Tony Elumelu Foundation. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Tony Elumelu Foundation, UNICEF Generation Unlimited (GenU), IKEA Foundation, and young green entrepreneurs.

Benefits and Eligibility

  • The primary objective of BeGreen Africa is to establish a comprehensive, sustainable, and youth-driven green entrepreneurship initiative in the waste management sector in Kenya and the green sector in Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, and South Africa. The program aims to uplift marginalized youth by enhancing their social and economic well-being while addressing the triple planetary crisis and diminishing inequalities.
  • BeGreen Africa seeks to train and economically empower the following individuals:
    • 1,000 Kenyan youth in the waste management sector.
    • 120 young entrepreneurs in Kenya's waste management sector.
    • 25 green sector entrepreneurs under the age of 35 in Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.
  • All participants should possess either new or existing green businesses, showcasing their commitment to sustainable practices.
  • The initiative will contribute to a deeper understanding of youth entrepreneurship's potential in impactful green sectors. It will explore how young entrepreneurs can contribute to circular economies and the sustained
  • advancement of a green revolution in Africa.
