Africa Business Club IDEA Pitch Competition 2023 (up to $5,000 in prizes)

Application deadline: October 13, 2023

Are you a food startup operating in Africa or a black-owned food manufacturing business in the US? Your opportunity for business growth has arrived!

The IDEA pitch competition, launched by the African Business Club in 2022, is back for its 2023 edition. This time, it comes with an exciting addition: a mentorship program to support the competition's finalists. The pitch competition is specifically designed to empower emerging African entrepreneurs on the African continent and black-owned entrepreneurs based in the United States. In 2023, the competition is focusing on the dynamic food industry. Your business pitch should reflect the originality of your team and how your idea aligns with your business objectives.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in this competition, there are specific criteria you need to meet:

  1. Your business pitch must be an authentic creation of your team. You retain all rights to your business pitch, both before and after the competition. Fabricated information about your team's background, experience, education, product development stage, product performance claims, or market survey results is strictly prohibited.

  2. This competition is open to African entrepreneurs based in Africa and black-owned entrepreneurs based in the United States. At least one member of your management team must fit this criteria, but other team members can also contribute to the planning of your venture. Each participant is allowed to submit only one business pitch.

  3. The competition is intended for African entrepreneurs who have actively contributed to the creation, management, and ownership of ventures in Africa, or for black-owned entrepreneurs based in the United States. This means that African entrepreneurs must have played a significant role in founding the venture, hold key management positions, and own a substantial share.

  4. The competition is designed to foster new ideas and business development, with the aim of helping businesses that have been registered for at least 6 months gain access to additional funding. Companies must be less than 5 years old at the time of submitting their application.

  5. This initiative encourages professionalism and respect among competing teams. The Africa Business Club at Kelley (ABC @Kelley) reserves the right to disqualify teams that engage in unprofessional conduct.

The rewards for the top performers in this competition are as follows:
