Apply now: Connected African Girls Coding Camp (8th Edition)

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) introduced the Connected African Girls Coding Camp in 2020, a series of hybrid boot camps aimed at narrowing the digital divide and enhancing ICT skills for young African girls and women.

In partnership with host governments, UN Women, and the ITU, this initiative has effectively organized seven hybrid coding camps, impacting a total of 35,000 trainees.

The 8th Connected African Girls Hybrid Coding Camp, co-hosted by ECA and the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, is scheduled to occur in Chimoio, Mozambique from October 23rd to October 29th, 2023.

This event will convene more than 60 girls hailing from various provinces of Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, and Angola. The camp is designed to cater to girls and young women aged 12 to 25, featuring both in-person participants and over a thousand online attendees from across the continent.

In collaboration with ECA, the event's organization involves the Mozambique Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, as well as Pungue University. Over the course of the boot camp, participants will receive vital technical education and skill training, laying a robust foundation for STEAM education, employment opportunities, and entrepreneurship. This initiative contributes to Africa's integration, fosters inclusive economic growth, stimulates job creation, and equips Africa with modern digital management tools.

The intensive 7-day workshop will include rotating classes covering:

  1. Robotics,
  2. IoT,
  3. AI,
  4. 3D printing,
  5. Animation,
  6. Gaming, and
  7. Web development.

Furthermore, master classes will address essential topics such as confidence building, human rights, public speaking, project pitching, Agenda 2063, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
