Calling all young African storytellers! The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) and the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL) are excited to announce the African Youth Storytelling Contest, taking place ahead of GLF Nairobi 2023. We invite you to unleash your creativity, share your visions, and become part of a global movement towards thriving landscapes in Africa.

About the Global Landscape Forum (GLF) As the world's largest knowledge-led platform on sustainable land use, GLF is dedicated to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement. With a vast global reach and millions of participants, GLF plays a crucial role in connecting organizations and individuals to forge a brighter future for the world's landscapes.

Aims and Benefits of the GLF African Youth Storytelling Contest

  • The top 10 to 15 entries will be showcased on GLF's website and social media channels, as well as during GLF Nairobi 2023, reaching thousands of people.
  • The three best stories will receive prizes of EUR 500, 300, and 200, respectively.

Eligibility The contest is open to:

  • Anyone between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Individuals born and/or currently living in Africa or part of the African diaspora

Criteria for Judging Entries Entries will be judged based on:

  • Creativity, passion, and originality.
  • Relevance to the theme of alternative visions for Africa's peoples and landscapes
  • Clarity of expression and communication of ideas
  • Overall impact and effectiveness.

How to Apply

  • We welcome diverse storytelling forms, including videos, poetry, music, art, animation, and any creative medium that showcases your unique perspective.
  • Don't forget to include a photo of yourself in the application.
  • Include essential details such as your full name, municipality, country, the name of your community, and organization logo (if applicable).
  • For non-English entries, provide an English transcript.
  • Submissions can be made directly on the application platform or via WhatsApp to Hyginus Laari at h.laari@cifor-icraf.org.
