The Western Union Foundation Fellowship Program, in partnership with the Watson Institute, is tailor-made for visionary individuals hailing from and collaborating with marginalized, refugee, and forcibly displaced communities. This life-changing 16-week program aims to equip social entrepreneurs with vital skills and immersive experiences to enhance their access to economic opportunities. Beyond skill development, fellows will have the opportunity to secure seed funding, connect with a supportive community, navigate the dynamic landscape of social impact work, and create a lasting mark within their communities.

This part-time fellowship, hosted virtually from October 2nd, 2023, to February 15th, 2024, promises a comprehensive array of benefits to amplify your impact:

  • Seed Funding: Select Western Union Foundation Fellows can access up to $45,000 in seed funding, tailored to their progress and impact throughout the fellowship.
  • Skill Enhancement: Immerse yourself in expert-led training that equips you with essential skills for enhancing economic accessibility, becoming a community leader, and propelling your career forward.
  • Mentorship and Community: Forge connections with globally acclaimed entrepreneurs, industry experts, fellow alumni, and the Western Union Foundation network. Unleash the power of mentorship, guidance, and unwavering support throughout your journey.
  • Basecamp Experience: Participate in a dynamic 2-day workshop, Basecamp, designed to amplify your community impact. Collaborate with rising entrepreneurs and leaders from diverse backgrounds to craft innovative solutions and communicate your vision effectively.
  • Summit Showcase: Culminate your fellowship with a high-profile Summit, where you'll present your journey, progress, and impact to a global audience, including Western Union Foundation representatives and mentors.

Who Should Apply?

If you identify with the following criteria, this fellowship is tailored for you:

  • Global Changemakers: Entrepreneurs or community leaders championing impactful initiatives within marginalized, refugee, or forcibly displaced communities across the world
  • Track Record of Impact: Lead an early-stage social impact venture or community initiative with a demonstrated history of fostering change, entrepreneurship, and leadership within your community.
  • Prioritized Regions: Applicants from or working in Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, India, Lithuania, Nigeria, the Philippines, Uganda, the United Kingdom, and the United States are given preference.
  • Yearning for Growth: Seek expert-led entrepreneurial training, avenues for funding, and an expansive mentorship network to accelerate your leadership prowess and the reach of your venture.
  • Trailblazing Outcomes: With the Watson Institute's guidance, chart a roadmap for scaling your venture's impact. Moreover, impart your wisdom through community-based impact workshops, guided by the playbook and team support.

  1. Complete the online application.
  2. Qualified candidates will be invited to a 20-minute Zoom interview, commencing on July 10, 2023.
  3. The most exceptional applicant profiles will be shared with our external admissions committee for the final review.
  4. Expect final acceptances and fellowship awards to be announced in mid-August.
  5. The journey is completed with the review and signing of Watson's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
